How much does it cost and when do you get it:

Novel, Page one $   35.00 1 week

Novel, First 10 pages $   95.00 1 week

Novel, First Chapter $ 145.00 1 week

  • up to 20 pages

  • $5/page for extra

Novel, First Act $ 250-850.00 2 weeks

(includes all smaller critiques above)

  • up to 100 pages (price depends on the length of your Act I)

  • $5/page for extra

Novella $ 850.00 2 weeks

  • up to 100 pages

  • $5/page for extra

Short story $ 150.00 1 week

  • up to 30 pages

  • $5/page for extra  

I may be able to get shorter works back to you faster, but life happens and I like to leave skooch room.

Also, my brain keeps thinking about your story after I think I’m done, so it allows for residual brilliant story thoughts.

Publishing Industry standards and opinions about fiction lengths vary, so this is what I’m going with.

  • Novel: 80-100K wds

  • Novella: 15-40K wds

  • Novelette: 7.5-15K wds

  • Short: 1-7.5K wds

The Whole Process

Your first email to me:

  • You email me your manuscript info only, not the manuscript itself.

  • Manuscript info: title, genre(s), word count, and a 2-3 paragraph synopsis of your whole story.

  • A little bit about yourself as a writer and a human being.

Then:

  • - I email you my Client Info Form, which includes how to format your manuscript (see also below)

You return said email with your manuscript attached

Then:

  • We have a 1-hour Discovery Zoom call, to chat about your manuscript.

  • I email you an invoice, which you pay (100% or 50/50% - see below)

  • I will start your critique, and will let you know when it’s completed.

  • I send you your completed Critique Report and Manuscript notes.

  • You mull it over (1 week)

  • We have a 1-hour Zoom call for questions and discussion about the Report.

How to format your fiction manuscript:

  • Word .doc or .docx

  • Courier Neue or Times New Roman font

  • 12 pt.

  • Double-spaced

  • 1” margins (left, right, top, bottom)

  • You can start your first page at the top if you want.

  • Add page numbers

Payments

I invoice primarily through PayPal, though I can use Square and Stripe. All you need is a credit card.

On the invoice will be a description of our critique arrangement.

  • Please review the details of our arrangement carefully.

  • Do not pay the invoice until you understand and agreed to all details.

  • If you have any questions or quibbles, please call or email me, and we will edit the statement of understanding so that it works for both of us.

There are two schedules of payments:

For projects up to $300.00:

  • You pay 100% of the invoice upfront.

  • Then I will start your critique, etc.

OR

For projects over $300:

  • You may pay 50% of the invoice upfront (I can set this up on the invoice). This initial payment of 50% is not refundable if I have already started the project.

  • I will start your critique, and let you know when it's done.

  • You will pay the remaining 50% of the invoice (within 14 days of project completion.)

  • I will send you your completed Critique Report.
